Calm Fairies Companion Training

Welcome to the Calm Fairies team

Thank you for the commitment you have already made to get this far!

This part of the onboarding process is to prepare you for your first hospital visit. You will learn how to conduct a session with children, what activities you can share and how to embody the role of the Calm Fairy Companion.

A typical session

Although each Calm Fairy Companion visit is unique to the individual's needs, we follow a structured framework to create a meaningful experience that fosters genuine rapport and all of the conditions required for calm.

Understanding Anxiety

Understanding the different ways that stress and anxiety presents in children in hospital, helps us to choose the most ideal activities and methods for them.

How does breathing help us feel calm?

Breathing can be like a superpower for kids in the hospital! This easy explanation helps them see HOW their superpower works and why taking slow breaths is so important.

Adapting the practices

Some children will have medical conditions that require us to adapt our tool kit to be more suitable for them.

Parents & Staff

A Calm Fairies Companion visit can benefit parents and staff too. Here are some helpful tips on how to approach parents and respect medical staff during our sessions.

Next steps...

Thank you for taking the time to go through this training. You can return back to it, any time you need.

Our  next step is to meet in person on the ward. You get to follow me around and watch it all come together, ask questions and eventually facilitate a whole session solo under guidance.
